Course description and learning objectives

The course has been developed for policy makers interested in developing their understanding of the problem of school violence and bullying and in having enough resources for its management. By attending this course, participants will have the opportunity to reflect on what they think about school violence and ways of dealing with it. With the help of scientific research, national and international experts, and their peers, they will improve their competence to contribute effectively to policies and educational procedures related to school violence and the building of a democratic convivencia 1.

The structure and methodology of the courses are designed for encouraging the participants in constructive and significant learning to consolidate what they have learned in the day to day work of the policy makers.

  • Module 1: Definition, context and knowledge of School violence
  • Module 2: A Whole School Approach 1
  • Module 3: A Whole School Approach 2
  • Module 4: Responsibilities and rights
  • Module 5: Managing and evaluating change
  • Module 6: Preventive and Integrative Practice
  • Module 7: Coping with school bullying and violence using the Internet
  • Module 8: Cyberbullying

Requirements for students

Participants are invited to carry out different types of tasks and activities. Among them, ‘getting ready’, in which they can read a scientific text; ‘Organising new concepts’, in which they can analyse the new information obtained; ‘Thinking about the issue’, in which they will find the utility of the new information;; etc.

Rosario Ortega is full professor of Psychology at the University of Cordoba, principal of the Laboratorio de Estudios sobre Convivencia y Prevención de la Violencia (Lab for Studies about Convivencia and Violence Prevention - LAECOVI).. She has supervised and supervises national and international investigation projects related to school violence and bullying. Her contributions connected to the psycho-educational prevention and intervention to cope with such problem are internationally renowned. She has attended, t and participated as an expert in, numerous scientific congresses and meetings and has a enormous variety of publications in the fields of school violence and bullying. Dr Rosario Del Rey

Rosario Del Rey is a lecturer in Instructional Psychology in the Department of Psychology at the University of Cordoba and member of the Laboratorio de Estudios sobre Convivencia y Prevención de la Violencia (Lab for Studies about Convivencia and Violence Prevention - LAECOVI).. She participates in national and international investigation projects related to school violence and bullying, specially focusing in the study and development of psycho-educational prevention and intervention projects and programs. Joaquín Mora-Merchán is Associate Professor in Educational Psychology at the Department of Developmental and Educational Psychology at the University of Seville and member of the Laboratorio de Estudios sobre Convivencia y Prevención de la Violencia (Lab for Studies about Convivencia and Violence Prevention - LAECOVI).
