Project members in the first phase of the VISIONARY project (2000-2003)


Robert Arpo

Robert Arpo, MA, born 26.6.1974, works as a researcher in ETNICA, and as the assistant coordinator for the Finnish team of the VISIONARY project. He graduated from the University of Joensuu with literary studies and cultural anthropology as his majors. He is currently preparing his doctoral dissertation on communication, textuality and culture in the Internet, and is also participating in the virtual university literary studies project in Finland. He has published articles on Internet-culture and textuality in Finnish and in English.

Pirkko Pitkänen

Senior Research Fellow, Dr. Pirkko Pitkänen is lecturer, working at the University of Joensuu Ethnic Relations Research Center. Her research interests include transnational migration, ethnic relations, multicultural education, and diversity management. Pirkko Pitkänen is the coordinator of the Finnish team in the Visionary project.

Lea Kervinnen

Research Secretary Lea Kervinen is working in the University of Joensuu, in the Carelian Institute. She is the technical assistant for the Finnish team in the Visionary project.

Päivi Atjonen

Päivi Atjonen, professor, Dr., is working at the University of Joensuu, in the Department of Educational Science. She is the content and methods expert for the Finnish team in the Visionary project.
